2017-18 New Family Info
Hi! Some of you already know us, but I want to take this chance to introduce the Freedom Scholars for America commonwealth school. We are a community of homeschooling moms. Homeschool is Crazy AWESOME as we all know, but drama, choir, simulations, book discussions, writing groups, presentations, debate, and so many other experiences that we want for our kids are challenging to do without a group. (Once our family did our own version of the Nutcracker. Can you picture it? It was hilarious but not super satisfying for the kids.)
Maybe your family has been looking for a safe, affordable place to have some great group learning happen, or maybe you have teens that just need a little more structure and positive peer pressure.
When kids are asked why they love co-op, the answers are varied.
-
Some love the opportunity to perform.
-
Others have found new passions by trying things they wouldn’t have otherwise.
-
Some love the hands-on learning.
-
Some love having someone new to give feedback and appreciate their work.
-
Some love being asked to push deeper and reach higher, without being forced.
-
All love having homeschooled friends that are kind and inclusive.
As for the moms -
-
Some moms love having the crafts or science projects done elsewhere.
-
Some moms love to take all of their kids once per week during the day and have activities for them so they can get back their evenings as a family.
-
Some moms love spending less money for great classes.
-
And of course, we as moms love talking to other adults. (Ones who don’t think we are crazy for homeschooling, or that public school can solve all our problems.)
We are currently looking for more families to join us in our journey. Things you should know about us:
-
We are a Christian group, that accepts all kinds. We discuss Christ and His ministry, scriptures etc. We do not limit membership based on belief- anyone can feel free to join as long as they are OK with Christian values and teachings being taught.
-
We loosely follow the Thomas Jefferson Education model. We believe classes for young kids less than 8 years old should be learning through play. Classes for kids 8-12 are hands-on, geared to help them to be curious, love learning, and try new things. And classes for 12+ are scholarly and if fully participated in, are equivalent to high school/college level classes, with lots of independent thinking and initiative required. (OK, they have a lot of fun too!)
-
We are especially looking for moms that are excited to teach and learn, but we understand not everyone is at that place in their life right now, and so teaching is not required. (Please consider teaching! It is so rewarding, and we let you choose your age group and teach your passion.)
-
Kids under 12 cannot be dropped off. Moms of children under 12 that would like to participate must stay and help in some way. We love your kids, we just love our sanity more.

For more details about us and to help us to get to know you, please fill out the Family Application. Here is the link. Those that fill out the family application first will be given priority should we fill up. Last year junior school (12 and under) did fill up before school started. So fill it out now, while you are thinking about it. Yes, now, before the mom distraction sets in and you forget you even heard of us!! Seriously it shouldn’t take longer than 10-15 minutes.
